OUR CHOSEN CHARITY
Tom spent a great deal of time traveling between his home in Ohio and Mexico City. With his usual enthusiasm and willingness to experience new things, he fell in love with Mexico's culture and people.
However, Tom was saddened by the extreme poverty in which too many of this country's citizens live, and he was specially moved by the suffering of children.
It is estimated that there are over 400,000 orphans in Mexico, and more than 100,000 of them are homeless, although the authorities don't keep accurate records. Many more have living parents who can't provide even the most basic needs.
There are public and private institutions who shelter these children, but it is important to be careful, as some of them do not provide a healthy or safe environment for their charges.
PADRE CHINHACHOMA CHILDREN'S HOME
Tom knew this organization through its long-standing relationship with his workplace.
They do an outstanding job providing a loving place where children are well cared for and encouraged to bond as a family.
